Call for Papers 2022 ASA Conference Canberra: Here We Are
The past few years have been times of challenge, change and a sense of turmoil. This conference invites participants to take the time and space to reflect on where we are:
- Practice and Identity Here we are in our profession—rather than always looking to the future, where are we situated now, today? What is our standpoint? Who are we and where do we work? What have we achieved? In this theme we want to hear from you about practice, education and identity, for example, what is an archivist now? What is a record now?
- Collaboration and Advocacy Here we are! Bringing attention to ourselves, advocating for our profession(s)—telling people we are here. Here we are in relation to others—what is our relationship to place, to Country, to Canberra and the like.
- Developing Practices Where we aren't - thinking about spaces we might want to move into; areas we do not currently occupy; conversations we do not currently participate in; relationships we can build.
We are also interested in updates on key issues from recent conferences. If you presented in recent years on a topic you think we need to hear more about, or you heard a presentation that inspired you, also propose those in any of the following formats.
Proposals are invited in one or more of the formats listed below:
- Traditional papers, 20 minutes plus 5-10 minutes for discussion
- Panel discussion or debates over a 90-minute session. All format proposals welcome – typically they comprise three to four people exploring a topic with time for discussion
- Interactive discussion session over a 90 minute session, designed for audience participation
- Lightning talks – informal short talks of 7 mins plus 5 minutes for Q & A
- Workshops – half or full day to be held on 20 October 2022 in Canberra
- Other – surprise us! Please submit other ideas or suggestions for a 90 minute session.
The committee may choose to combine individual presentations into panels.
Your audience will be archivists, records and information professionals from small, medium and large organisations in government, private and community sector organisations. Many are from Australia but delegates also come from NZ and overseas.
New to presenting at the ASA conference? We really welcome your participation. The Program Committee can broker a mentor relationship for you with an experienced participant. Request that in your proposal.
Submit your proposal by 24 March 2022. You will be notified of the Program Committee's decision once all submission have been reviewed. Conference registrations open May 2022.
Note:
- Speakers, presenters, panel members and workshop facilitators are required to register and pay to attend the ASA conference, as well as cover their own travel and accommodation costs
- The discounted speaker registration rate will be the ASA individual member rate for speakers attending the full conference in person. Discounts for students apply.
If you have a question or wish to discuss a proposal, please contact the Program Committee by email.
