3A.1 Local digital preservation challenges for a global community
Abstract Details
This panel session will provide examples of how different organisations are addressing the challenges of digital preservation in a global, regional and local context. Panel members will provide examples of how organisations with different regional remits have approached strategic and policy documentation, workforce development and technological solutions to address their digital preservation needs. Panel members will address the digital preservation challenges facing global, regional and local organizations and identify the specific characteristics of digital preservation as required by their community. It will aim to identify whether the local Australasian context produces any specific digital preservation requirements that differentiate it from other\'s in the global community.
Biography
Robin Wright, Head Australasia & Asia Pacific, Digital Preservation Coalition. Robin has a background managing digital research projects in the cultural and education sectors. She is a copyright lawyer and has worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Media & Communications Law at Melbourne University and as Scholarly Resources Manager at Swinburne University of Technology. She has a BMus, MA and LLB(Hons), is on the Board of the Australian Digital Alliance and is Co-Lead of Creative Commons Australia.

Paul Wheatley
DPC Head of Research and Practice. Paul has over 20 years of experience working in digital preservation, from the seminal Cedars Project in the late 1990s, through leading the Digital Preservation Team at the British Library, to steering community driven approaches to curation as part of the Spruce Project. He has since worked as an independent consultant advising organisations on their digital preservation activities and currently provides support to members of the Digital Preservation Coalition as the Head of Research and Practice.
Joanne Winter
Joanne Winter is the Digital Preservation Coordinator for the Melbourne Cricket Club.
Cassie Shaw
Cassie Shaw is the Digital Archivist at RMIT University. She is an early career professional currently completing a Master of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University, specialising in Archives and Records Management. Cassie is interested in advocacy and community in digital preservation.
Jeni Wie
Jeni Wie, Digital Acquisition Lead, AIATSIS (Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies), Canberra ACT. Jeni Wie has worked at AIATSIS for 17 years, mostly managing audio collections, followed by a brief stint in the manuscripts section. Her long-smouldering interest in seeking solutions to challenges emerging from the digital realm has been ignited, as she recently filled a brand-new role at AIATSIS, as Digital Acquisition Lead. Prior to working at AIATSIS, Jeni worked on medical research projects in the Northern Territory, and then facilitated medical student placements in rural/remote parts of the Top End of the NT. Jeni is a stakeholder in the DPC Australasia and Asia-Pacific sub-committee, and a DPC Bit List Council member.
Joyce Wong
Joined National Archives of Singapore as archivist working mainly on transfer, preservation and access of digital government records.
