About the Conference Theme

The past few years have been times of challenge, change and a sense of turmoil.

Here We Are, the 2022 ASA conference encourages you to join us in Canberra to share your ideas and reflections, to take the time and space to reflect on Where We Are.

  • Practice and Identity Here we are in our profession—rather than always looking to the future, where are we situated now, today? What is our standpoint? Who are we and where do we work? What have we achieved? In this theme we want to hear from you about practice, education and identity, for example, what is an archivist now? What is a record now?
  • Collaboration and Advocacy Here we are! Bringing attention to ourselves, advocating for our profession(s)—telling people we are here. Here we are in relation to others—what is our relationship to place, to Country, to Canberra and the like.
  • Developing Practices Where we aren't - thinking about spaces we might want to move into; areas we do not currently occupy; conversations we do not currently participate in; relationships we can build.

Introducing the Conference

Here We Are, the 2022 ASA conference encourages you to join us in Canberra to share your ideas and reflections, to take the time and space to reflect on Where We Are.

Be Anywhere in the World and Still Attend Here We Are 2022!

If you're coming to our 2022 national conference you'll have the choice to attend in-person or virtually. Here We Are 2022 will be a hybrid conference providing the best of both worlds.

Hotel Realm, one of Canberra's most prestigious event spaces, has been chosen as this year's physical conference venue. Hotel Realm is located amongst iconic cultural institutions within the Parliamentary Triangle, with cafes and restaurants within walking distance.

The virtual component of the conference will showcase the award winning platform EventsAir, a Queensland based business. EventsAir has amazing usability, and functionality that will provide benefits for delegates, both online and in-person. There will be the opportunity for virtual and on-site attendees, both national and international, to join in the conversation, ask speakers and panelists questions and network with other attendees, all in real time.

We learnt a lot from our 2021 fully virtual conference and received some great feedback from attendees. We'll be providing some how to's in the lead up to the conference to ensure all delegates are familiar with the platform before attending the conference. We'll also be providing some extra features in 2022 which will make your virtual conference experience easier.
